Your prompt for JusJoJan January 13th, 2020, is “subscribe.” Use the word “subscribe” any way you’d like. Have fun!
Thanks to dear Willow for today’s prompt. I subscribe to her blog, because she writes beautiful poems and has interesting things to say. She is one of the first bloggers I found when I started Forty C’est Fantastique and I’m so pleased that I still get to hear from her even though I am the world’s most inconsistent blogger.
Isn’t it too easy to subscribe to too many things these days? What with the internet, one just clicks “subscribe “ on a blog or a youtube channel or a Twitter feed or whatever. In fact, so many social media content creators are yelling at me, begging me to “hit subscribe”, “ring the notification bell”, “join our Patreon”, etc. It’s a different world these days, where so many people are actually making a living off of the fact that I am so easily sucked down internet rabbit holes. And I admit I am susceptible. I see clever content and feel that the creator should be somehow rewarded for making it. It’s true, they should be, but I can’t support them all. I can’t “like” everything.
I used to have too many magazine subscriptions for the same reason. I liked the magazine, wanted to support it, etc. It got to a point that I couldn’t read them all every month, and I had a hard time throwing them out, especially if they were pretty. Finally I did the big purge and threw them all out. Now I’m happy to only have two subscriptions. One of them is quarterly, which suits me fine, The other was a gift I just received for Christmas this year from a dear family member, and it’s to France magazine, and I am very excited to receive it!
When I go into a book store these days, I can’t help but look at the magazines. Sometimes I buy one, but I toss the subscription cards first thing, to avoid temptation.
Along with my bullet journal that I keep, I made a “word of the year” page, and my word is “Simplify.” One thing that is on my list to simplify is subscriptions, mostly online ones these days, I think I have the physical ones pretty well in hand.
Et vous, chers lecteurs? Are you inundated with subscriptions? How do you deal with subscribing to too many online things?
