J’ai la pêche !

Bonjour mes chers lecteurs !  Oui, ça fait longtemps. Je suis désolée.

Yes, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted something here. It’s a work in progress. Sorry about that.

So…Peaches!!! The French have an expression : “Avoir la pêche”  Which literally translates to “To have the peach” but which really means that you are doing great! You are “en forme”, everything is…well…Peachy!  If a friend says to you “Comment vas-tu ?”  and you are having an awesome day, you could answer, “J’ai la pêche !”  So am I “peachy” today? Hmmm….well…

The French have another expression: “Être crevé” which literally translates as “to be flat/dead/done in”  and is used to mean “I’m really really really tired, I’m beat, I’m dead on my feet.” (the word “crevé ”  also can refer to a flat tire, something I am all too familiar with!)

So the question is, can one “avoir la pêche” and “être crevé” at the same time? Well, sort of.  It is peach season here in Colorado, and the peaches are ripe, juicy, and above all bountiful this year. It’s a good peach year! The peach trees, well, “ils ont la pêche !”

Of course, Colorado peaches are not as widely known as say, Georgia peaches, but I think they could hold their own in any peachy taste test! The real problem with Colorado is that the peach seaon is short, and some years are fantastic while others are just good. When there is a fantastic year, people (and by people I mean me) think they need to try to horde these delights. I know that in a mere couple of weeks I will be deprived of these golden treasures, so I have tried to preserve them.  I took up canning this year with the help of a friend of mine. I am not sure whether or not this is a good thing!

In the last couple of weeks, I have canned some 40 jars of peaches in extra-light syrup, 12 jars of peach jam, 7 jars of peach-basil jam, 7 jars of peach butter, 7 jars of Zesty Peach BBQ sauce, and I have made a peach cobbler and peach ice cream.

All of these things are tasty and some of them (obviously not the cobbler because it will be gone in a day or two!) will bring summer into a dreary winter day.  But mes amis —   Je suis crevé !!
