Looking down on their heads from the balcony,

Seeing without being seen,

Lurking, wondering, imagining,

“That woman is a spy.”

“Really?”

“Yes, see how she keeps readjusting her brooch? It’s a camera!”

“Oooh, yes. And she keeps herself exactly fifteen steps behind the man in the maroon sweater. Did you notice?”

“What is it about that guy, anyway? He seems nervous, don’t you think?”

“Indeed! Oh, look! Maroon sweater just gave an envelope to the lady with the home-done highlights in her hair.”

“How can you tell she did them at home?”

“From here, you can see the pattern of the comb she used. It looks like stripes, see?”

“Oh. Yeah, I guess so. It must be part of her disguise. What do you suppose was in the envelope?”

“Definitely a flash drive. What do you think is on it?”

“Oh, I don’t know…probably some information to blackmail a local politician, or…oh, they’ve blinked the lights.”

“Yes, it’s time to go in now. I do love Spanish guitar, don’t you?”

“This is going to be amazing!”

and it was. Even more amazing than imagining stories about the concertgoers below, the ones who didn’t see us watching them.
