La vie est belle !

C’est triste, ça !

I have had the pleasure of eating mimolette cheese twice so far in my life. I liked it very much! Sadly, for the last year, the FDA has banned this cheese from being imported into the US because it made (all of a sudden?) some silly regulation about the mites which inhabit the rind and give it a distinctive character. Boo. This lady, Cecile Delarue, who is a journaliste and cuisinère, and who has a great blog, has been speaking out about this ban for a whole year now, and she just posted a great but sad video about the last bit of mimolette she’s been able to find, and a recipe for un croque-monsieur. I’m definitely going to eat some when I go to France.  Watch the video. Go to her website and watch all her videos. She’s funny and of course, “Elle est parfaite.”

Quelle dommage. A pox on FDA. I’ve never heard of that cheese! Now I want some!
    Thanks for video link.

That is sad that something that heavenly delicious is banned in the U.S. I guess, it gives us the opportunity to visit it’s home country and get more than just a cheese indulgence but a cultural travel blast as well. Have a blessed day.

Yes, and it will be that much more special when we go enjoy it in its “natural environment.” Thanks for stopping by 🙂

How bizarre that they will ban a cheese but allow a flood of poisonous man made chemcials into our everyday diets. I almost want to laugh …

Yes by all means ban the natural cheese and put poison on everything instead, right? Apparently I don’t have the “big picture”… Bah.

Haha, that is hilarious, she is awesome!

I can’t believe that the US has banned mimolette, that’s crazy. There was something recently about the EU planning to ban all unpasteurized cheeses because of health risks etc. What is the world coming to!?!

You should do what we used to do coming back to the UK from family holidays in France: our luggage was FULL of cheese and ham and pate and all sorts. I’ve had so many different cheeses and hams in my handbag/handluggage over the years. Not sure how well that will work with US customs though by the sound of things!

I hope that you will eat plenty of very old mimolette when you come to France soon. !

Oh, and I almost forgot, but WP has informed me that you are my 100th follower! Merci mille fois (ou bien cent fois?) I feel like I should have a special prize for you or something…instead I would just offer you and all the people who take the time to read these things that I write a virtual “mousse au chocolat”, otherwise known as “le bonheur” (happiness). I got the best recipe from Cécile Delarue, the same lady who is trying to “save the mimolette.” The video for this is on her site too, and it’s one of my favorites 🙂

    K.,
