 Z is for “Le Musée Zadkine” 

What is this? Qu’est-ce que c’est ?

It’s a small museum in Paris featuring the work of Russian sculptor Ossip Zadkine. He lived and worked in Paris during the mid-20th century.  The museum exists at his home and studio and houses many of his sculptures and drawings. It’s free to see and the website says that many of the sculptures are displayed in a beautiful garden.

Where is it? Où est-ce ? 

Le Musée Zadkine is located in Paris’ 6th arrondissement, near the Jardin du Luxembourg. There is also a street in Paris named for Zadkine, but it’s in the 13th arrondissement, nowhere near the museum. Just some cool trivia. Maybe we’ll see the street too, on ne sais jamais…(one never knows)

Why do I want to go there? Pourquoi est-ce que je veux y aller ?

The museum is very close to the Jardin du Luxembourg, which is a “for sure” destination. It would be a great opportunity to learn about an artist that I have never heard of before! His work, which spans the years between 1929-1967, was inspired by primitivism, Cubism, Greek and Roman art, mythology…it seems that Zadkine’s work was quite eclectic. Also, there is just something really nice about sculpture gardens. I imagine that since it is smaller and more out of the way, this museum might be relatively quiet, and it may be a nice break during our city walking.

Any Ossip Zadkine scholars out there? Have you seen his work, or discovered any other “hidden” museums in Paris or elsewhere that you would recommend?
