Last night my husband and I had the opportunity to hear this amazing young man (yes, not even 20 yet!) play with our local orchestra. He played the Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini  and the Liszt Totentanz.  An interesting duo of pieces, both being themes with variations, both incorporating the “Dies Irae” (13th century hymn known for it’s use in the Catholic Requiem Mass)

We were fortunate to be able to attend a pre-concert lecture where Mr. Tao spoke about the performance and about his extraordinary musical life. His performance was absolutely astounding! I cannot fathom the depths of his energy! To play two such demanding pieces back-to-back, and then, not only did he still *jog* off the stage, but he jogged back on and played us a lovely Schumann piece as an encore.  I can only imagine what he will do in the future, being already so accomplished! I urge you to check out his website!
